About SilverBamboo

SilverSport’s SilverBamboo™ is made of viscose from bamboo – a soft, super-absorbent fabric that gives the SilverTowel it’s unique properties.  Our exclusive material has a number of amazing qualities, some of which we have highlighted below.

  • THE CROP
  • The farm where the source bamboo is grown is certified organic under the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA).
  • The source bamboo crop we use is certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program (NOP).
  • Our source bamboo does not require irrigation, nor does it have to be replanted.
  • Bamboo sequesters more carbon dioxide and produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent acreage of trees
  • Bamboo can be harvested in 3-5 years vs. 10-20 years for trees
  • Bamboo is the most sustainable agricultural crop on earth
  • THE FIBER
  • Our finished fiber is certified to meet the Oeko Tex 100 Class A standard which states there are no residual chemicals in the fiber that would be harmful to the health of humans or babies.
  • Our finished fiber has Forest Stewardship Council’s Chain of Custody Certification (FSC CoC) which certifies the finished fiber originated at the organic farm.
  • The company that produces our fiber utilizes a modern, closed loop system that recovers and recycles the majority of the chemicals used in the fiber processing.
  • THE FABRIC
    • Our fabrics are wholly manufactured in the US
    • In wet processing of our fabrics, all materials used including pre-treatments, surfactants, dyes, and finishing agents meet the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
    • Tests results show that our fabrics are resistant to odor, absorb water at a rate equivalent to 2-3 times that of cotton, and wick moisture away from the skin at a rate exceeding most polyester ‘performance’ fabrics.
    • THE FINISHED PRODUCT
    • Our products, whether yoga apparel, baby blankets, sport towels, or socks, can be washed less often. A recent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) completed by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency found that 80%-90% of the environmental costs of a tee shirt comes after the product is purchased by the consumer. Home laundering accounts for the overwhelming majority of the environmental impact of clothing.
    • Our products are more comfortable, wear longer, provide thermal regulation, and promote healthier skin by keeping you dry.
    • Our products are Made in the U.S.A.
